My Views and My Reviews: Reader Discretion Is Advised

Like everyone I was also desperately waiting for Oscar’s results and kept my finger cross not only for Slumdog Millionaire but also for another nominee of Oscars Award: Smile Pinki.

Asap award ceremony started my heartbeat was started playing, but when Slumdog Millionaire started taking awards one by one my soul started feeling deep happiness and I was over the moon when Smile Pinki got the Oscar for the best documentary I felt proud to be Indian. It’s not that Slumdog Millionaire didn’t give me proud moment but yes this small 39 minutes documentary did really make me feel good and did really made me think about our social problems.

Mixed Feelings!

But there is a something deep in my heart which is not letting me to explode my internal feeling of joy and proud and share my joy with other on this proudest moment of Indian film industry. Indian film Slumdog Millionaire is getting all the Oscars Award attention, media attention and people attention too and I don’t say Slumdog Millionaire getting attention un-deservedly, of course they are getting attention because they are worthy enough for all sort of attention but Smile Pinki is also equally deserved all sort of attention too. I would have been very happy if Indian media had given similar sort of attention to Smile Pinki documentary too. Anyway can’t complain much as people might start feeling that I am too much into complaining so back to the point.

A small introduction of Smile Pinki!

This documentary based on a true story of 6 year old poor girl born with defect upper lips. Because of her abnormality she didn’t wanted to go school or meet friends because all the friends and students tease her on her abnormal lips. This stigma and teasing by her mates, has broken the heart of this little girl.

As her parents are very poor so they can’t go for surgery in private clinics to make thing better for this little girl, who is being getting outcast by the society for no faults of her. But thanks to the global Smile Train Project, she receives plastic surgery and her life is transformed and that also for free of cost. It’s a dream come true for this little girl. No fiction and No mellow drama and true life story of this little girl. This documentary is produced and directed by American filmmaker Megan Mylan and the documentary is shot mostly in the in the Holy City of India (in fact holiest city for Hindus) – Varanasi.

Slumdog Millionaire had won 8 Oscars and made Billions of Indian proud but Smile Pinki Oscar Award has given Million Dollar smile to this little girl and will defenately change the lives of 4 Millions  childrens suffering from cleft problem. A big Thanks to the American filmmaker Megan Mylan for picking this issue’s and making Pinki Smile again and let her enjoy the beauty of normality.

Here is trailer of Documentary, I tried hard to find full documentary on web but no luck. If anyone of you will find full documentary, please please do let me know about it.

Last but not least: A big thanks to Slumdog Millionaire Team for making us proud Indian today  and big thank to Megan Mylan too for brining million dollar smile on this little girl. Jai Ho
